We are delighted to announce a new sponsorship agreement with Wetherby Whaler to rename Nethermoor Park ‘The Theatre of Chips’.
The agreement was reached with the loyal sponsors of the club to boost revenue after a tough year of Covid-19 restrictions.
The Lions will kick start the 2021/22 campaign at ‘The Theatre of Chips’ in August with the hope fans will be able to attend games after watching from home for so long, the sponsorship deal has been signed on a five year agreement.
William Piper, brand ambassador at Wetherby Whaler said “We’re proud to reach this agreement with Guiseley AFC to name the ground ‘The Theatre of Chips’, the town has a strong history with the potato based food and we hope to extend that further with this unique sponsorship deal.”
“We have had fantastic support of the town since we moved into the Harry Ramsdens premises and this is a great way to give back to the local community.”
As part of the sponsorship the playing surface will be transformed into a potato field during the off season with the goods being sent to Wetherby Whaler and turned into chips for their seven outlets across Yorkshire.
K Edwards, who will lead the transformation of the playing surface in the next few weeks, said “This is a great way to use a field local to our restaurant and produce high quality potatoes whilst also supporting the club. We plan to get work underway soon with everything put back into place for the 2021/22 season before we will return again in the spring/summer months in 2022 to grow our next crop.”
George Maris, a regular customer at Wetherby Whaler’s Guiseley outlet, said “I think this is a great way for the company to support the town and the club as a whole, I haven’t attended a GAFC match before but will definitely be heading down to ‘The Theatre of Chips’ next season.”
When fans return to Nethermoor they will each receive a complimentary portion of chips as part of the sponsorship agreement with Wetherby Whaler on hand to pump our home since 1909 with the constant smell of fresh fish and chips to cap off the matchday experience.
A spokesperson for Guiseley AFC said “This is the first of many unique sponsorship deals we are working on after a difficult year off the pitch with finances stretched. We can’t wait to welcome our supporters back to ‘The Theatre of Chips’. Plans are being put in place to develop a unique range of chip based memorabilia with more to come in the next few weeks.”
“We’re extremely thankful to Wetherby Whaler for their extended support of the club and look forward to seeing them at ‘The Theatre of Chips’ soon to begin planting their potato crop. We want our supporters to be assured the surface will be ready again for the new season, by turning the pitch into a potato field it will give us something to lift at the end of the campaign after it was cut short.”
