Lions share points in eight goal thriller

Jake Lawlor’s equalizer deep into added time saw the points shared with Woking at in an eight-goal thriller at Nethermoor as the Lions clawed themselves back into the game three times against a side that had conceded just six goals prior to this goal fest.

On the plus side the Lions scored netted four with Tom Craddock finally breaking his duck with a sublime finish although aspects of the home side’s defending will have given manager Mark Bower some food for thought prior to the visit of FC Halifax on Tuesday evening.

Woking soaked up some early home pressure but were quick and decisive on the break and took the lead on eight minutes courtesy of John Goddard’s stunning free kick from twenty yards out and although keeper Steven Drench got both hands to it he was unable to push the ball round the post.

Worse was to follow five minutes later when Goddard grabbed a second although Rob Atkinson gave the Lions hope just after the half hour from Zac Thompson’s corner before Nicky Boshell squared matters on 41 minutes, only for Brain Saah to head home from close range on the stroke of halftime to restore the Cards’ lead.

The second half started at a more sedate pace after the breathless exertions of the first period and as the home side’s momentum built Bower replaced Adam Boyes and Nicky Boshell with Wayne Brooksby and Craddock after 55 minutes.

And the change paid dividends on 67 minutes when an interchange between the two players and Lawlor on the edge of the area created the opportunity for Craddock to open his account with a precise finish into the far corner that once again left visiting keeper Jake Cole rooted to the spot.

Dan Holman looked to have wrapped it up again for the visitors on 75 minutes when he sidestepped Drench to net with ease having been left unmarked in the six-yard box, but the home side’s tenacity saw Lawlor grab a deserved equaliser six minutes into added time and the Lions might even have snatched an unlikely victory at the death with the same player firing over from a good position.
