Lions Secure West Riding County Cup Progression

The Lions are through to the third round of the West Riding County Cup after a 6-0 win at Garforth Town on Tuesday night.

A trip to either Tadcaster Albion or Silsden awaits in the next round.

Raul Correia, Danny Lowe and Callum McFadzean returned to the side after recovering from injury.

Paul Cox was running first team training so Dave Currie and Danny Ellis were in charge of a team made up of both academy and senior players.

Reece Thompson’s tap-in from Raul Correia’s, knock-down opened the scoring in the 21st minute after we had dominated the early proceedings.

No further goals followed in the first half but it took just seven minutes for Thompson to double his and our tally for the evening when he volleyed Danny Lowe’s pinpoint cross into the net.

Then nine minutes later the match ball belonged to Thompson, the hosts defence’s attempt to play offside did not work and the number 10 rounded Peter Lawrie in the home goal and placed the ball into the empty net.

Reece Thompson was not done there though, he scored his and the Lions’ fourth goal from close range after he got a crucial headed touch on Will Wells’ header.

Jean-Yves Koue Niate scored his first Lions goal when he smashed home a loose ball after The Miners couldn’t clear the danger.

To round off a successful night academy graduate Will Wells’ bullet header in the final minute of injury time was the last action.
