Lions Secure First Pre-Season Win

The Lions picked up their first win of the 19/20 pre-season at Yorkshire Amateur’s Bracken Edge last night.

Aleks Starcenko’s goal midway through the second half settled the tight contest which included a rotated side from the visitors after Tuesday night’s friendly at Harrogate Town.

The first half was closely fought with both sides struggling to really make an opening in the game.

Starcenko saw his 9th minute strike crash off of the crossbar and away, this was the first shot of the game.

Flynn came close for the hosts but the trialist keeper made a good stop to deny the striker.

As the half came to a close Tabish Hussain nearly opened the scoring but the home keeper made a good save when one on one with the winger.

The second half followed a similar pattern to the first and it Starcenko again with the opening opportunity.

The academy graduate looked up and struck his shot straight into the top corner for his first Guiseley goal, it was a moment of real quality from the midfielder.

A minute later A Trialist nearly headed home when he was found unmarked in the box but somehow the Ammers’ keeper kept his effort out.

The hosts did have the ball in the net but the referee spotted a foul on Will Thornton and the goal was disallowed.

The last chance of the game fell to Hussain who saw his low effort just go wide of the post.
