Guiseley 0-1 Worcester City
Guiseley Manager Steve Kittrick was left scratching his head as to how his team had managed to lose to a solitary strike from Danny Glover, having created a plethora of chances but failed to find the back of the net.
Home keeper Steven Drench had probably one of the quietest matches of his Lions career and could only watch as his teammates squandered fourteen clear cut chances at the other end where his opposite number Danny Coleman had a busy afternoon that started after just two minutes when he stopped James Walshaw’s free kick. Next he punched Luke Sharry’s shot straight up in the air but managed to tip the ball over under pressure from Walshaw.
Simon Baldry then found Danny Forrest unmarked twelve yards out but with only Coleman to beat the striker fluffed his lines and shot straight at the visiting keeper. Simon Ainge then saw his powerful free kick parried and somehow Coleman managed to block Joe O’Neill’s follow up.
Straight from the restart Baldry headed just over from a corner before the Worcester took the lead with well taken shot from an acute angle as Glover lashed in a loose ball following a corner. Further chances went begging for the home side when a move involving Darryn Stamp’s header, Baldrys overhead kick set up Walshaw who effort the wrong side of the upright.
In a rare break away Gary Walker pulled a shot wide from a good position for City whilst Stamp just failed to connect with Walshaw’s ball across the six yard box and then saw his goalbound header tipped over by Coleman. Two goalmouth scrambles followed and the comedy of errors continued as Gavin Rothery, Stamp, Walshaw and Peyton all had shots blocked for the Lions as Worcester held out for an unlikely victory.
