Lions retain unbeaten tag

Guiseley remain unbeaten and have still to concede a goal but drop to second place in the table after a dreary goalless draw at newly promoted AFC Fylde.

In truth, the Lions only troubled home keeper Ben Hinchcliffe on one occasion all afternoon while his colleagues, spurred on by ex-Guiseley midfielder Michael Potts, created several half chances but failed to trouble Steven Drench.

Potts went close early on, forcing Drench to tip over, but the nearest the visitors got was seeing efforts from Adam Boyes and Danny Forrest forced out in the six yard box late on in the first period as the Lions struggle to create a clear-cut opening.

Wayne Brooksby replaced Forrest at halftime but all too often the ball was played long to Boyes who lacked the support to make anything of his knock-ons. Although Nicky Boshell replaced Oli Johnson midway through the second half the cutting edge failed to materialise.

Meanwhile, Drench made several telling interventions to maintain another clean sheet, while Brooksby put in a cross late on, which Boyes nodded into the path of Boshell but the ball was just out of the striker’s reach.

The Lions drop to second on goal difference courtesy of North Ferriby’s 1-0 win at Boston ahead of Monday’s clash with Gainsborough at Nethermoor.
