A lacklustre Guiseley gained their first victory of the pre-season campaign by the slenderest of margins at Dimple Wells, having been given a serious workout by Evo-Stik Division One North side Ossett Albion.
The winning goal came with ten minutes remaining as Gavin Rothery played a slide rule pass for trialist James Burgess to apply a clinical finish.
Prior to the goal Craig Hobson and Rothery had blazed high and wide and, apart from Rothery hitting an upright minutes later, that was about the sum of the Lions’ efforts against a side who looked by far the better team in the first period.
Having started with two encouraging displays against Bradford City and Huddersfield Town the Lions travel to face Brighouse Town on Thursday where manager Steve Kittrick will be looking for a massive improvement after today’s disappointing display.
