Lions overcome Oxford

Thanks to goals from Wayne Brooksby, Josh Wilson and Nicky Boshell, Guiseley came through comfortably against an Oxford City side who could have proved tricky opposition .

The Lions proved too strong for the hosts, taking the lead after just two minutes when Mark Bower headed at goal from a corner, James Walshaw’s effort was blocked, and Brooksby was quickest  to react and stab home.
Wayne Brooksby grabbed a goal and an assist
Very few clear-cut chances followed for either side, Walshaw putting an effort just over and Oxford failing to cause too many problems from set pieces.
The second half provided more of the same with chances at a premium, and when substitute Wilson headed home from an Andy Holdsworth free-kick it was game over.
There was still time for fellow-sub Nicky Boshell to continue his fine goalscoring run this season as he finished well from a Brooksby pass to make it three.
Steve Kittrick said he was very pleased with the professionalism shown by his charges.
“It was a very professional performance today, I’m delighted”, he said.
“We’ve defended really well and stood up to the test.”
