Lions Looking Forward To Nethermoor Double

Match sponsored by SB Plumbing

The Lions are back at Nethermoor on Saturday hosting Maidstone United for the first of two home fixtures in four days.

Tickets for this clash are available to buy online here or at the turnstiles on the day.

The season is now approaching the final straight with just seven Vanarama National League fixtures left, three away and four at home.

Sean St Ledger was a happy man after the Easter Bank Holiday Weekend ended with a win at Hartlepool United on Monday thanks to a last minute Dayle Southwell strike.

The Stones have been struggling to get that winning feeling in recent weeks but have managed four draws since the turn of the year with two single goal victories last month.

They were edged out of their Easter fixtures with both games ending in 2-1 defeats to Hartlepool United and Dagenham and Redbridge respectively.

Speaking after Monday’s win at Hartlepool Interim Manager Sean St Ledger said “The last minute goals are always the best, I think it was much deserved.”

He was quick to praise the two midfield substitutes he introduced too “Putting on Kevan Hurst and Callum McFadzean added just a bit more experience in there.”

“Everyone who played here was absolutely fantastic, I can’t ask for any more from them. I think on Friday the performance wasn’t up to the standards we set for ourselves but then that today was fantastic.”

Speaking about the squad as a whole St Ledger is happy to see the work beginning to pay off now “I am really pleased for the players, the hard work they put into it got them three points out of it. You only get confidence from winning football games, now we have back-to-back home games hopefully that should push us forward.”

“I am over the moon for the players, they have put in a lot of hard work behind the scenes, they came in both Easter Saturday and Sunday, they deserve it.”

Sean also mentioned the loyal support, 64 of which were at Victoria Park on Monday “Since I have been a player the fans have been fantastic, we didn’t play very well on Friday but they still clapped us off.”

“They have come all this way, they deserve the win, the fans are the heart and soul of the club, they will always be here supporting them till the end. It is nice to give them a victory, it is our way of saying thank you and there’s your chocolate for Easter!”

Looking ahead to Saturday’s fixture against Maidstone United the former Republic of Ireland international said “We will keep going till the end, everyone had wrote Leicester off but they won seven games out of nine.”

“If the players put in the same level of performance, keep clean sheets and you win football games. It is not a coincidence in both our wins we have kept a clean sheet, we kept 11 on the pitch too and that is a nice stat!”

Ticket upgrades to a Club Classic package are available until 12pm Friday.
