Lions Left To Chew on Defeat as Young Toffees Triumph 3-1

The Lions were given another tough pre-season workout by a skillful Everton Under 21’s side at Nethermoor this afternoon who established a two goal lead and despite the home side halving the deficit a last gasp goal from the visitors put some gloss on their win.

The two teams traded early blows without really threatening either keeper but when the Lions finally got the breakthrough veteran ex-Liverpool keeper Andy Lonergan pulled off a superb one handed save that would have graced the  2019 UEFA Super Cup or FIFA Club World Cups when he was part of the squad.

Not to be outdone Kyle Trenerry denied the visitors when he palmed away a shot at full stretch but then found himself powerless to stop Kyle John from opening the scoring three minutes before the break.

The second period saw a raft of changes by both sides and Everton eventually doubled their advantage with six minutes remaining following a corner that was played back in to the mix where Eli Campbell applied the finishing touch.
The response however was almost immediate as Adam Haw and a Trialist had shots blocked before Trilaist D found the bottom corner with a well placed strike from just inside the area.
Then as the clock ticked down a smart finish by Matty Apter wrapped up proceedings for the Merseysiders.
