Kaine Felix grabbed a precious 93rd minute winner to give Guiseley their first win of the season and secure a victory that leaves wineless Nuneaton Borough rock bottom of the table after six games.
Guiseley started with the two strikers who had fashioned the late equaliser at Leamington last Saturday while Terry Kennedy made his home debut in the back four after having been out through injury since early pre-season.
Joe Green also returned between the sticks in place of Jon Worsnop.
Liburd had a great chance early on as he held off Mike Cleverley down the channel but his shot was easily saved by Cam Belford.
Scott Garner was next to try his luck but his shot from thirty yards out didn’t bother Belford.
Liburd the repeated his earlier heroics in getting the better of Danny Burns but the finish was a carbon copy of the first effort as Belford saved.
The opening goal resulted from a Guiseley free kick that came to nothing and the when Nuneaton counter attack found the home defence at sixes and sevens, the unmarked Enoch Andoh slotted past Green to give Boro the lead.
Boro then nearly doubled their tally courtesy of Kennedy’s mishit clearance that looped up and towards the home goal before Green stretched out a leg and cleared the ball off the line to save his colleagues blushes.
However, the visitors should have been two up shortly after when Courtney Richards headed back across the six-yard box only for Harry Panayiotou to scoop his effort over the bar.
Kayode Odejayi and Alex Purver replaced Thompson and Kennedy as the Lions looked to improve on their indecisive first half performance and the change paid dividends almost immediately as Purver set Felix on his way and his one-two with Liburd saw the winger just short of the big strikers s cross.
But the equaliser was not long in coming and when a partial clearance from a corner fell to Kingsley James, he slipped the ball in to Purver’s path for the midfielder to bury his shot in the bottom corner.
With the home midfield now fully involved Liburd’s powerful shot was just over the angle but it was a long throw from Niall Heaton that set up the winner deep into added time as Kaine was first to react in a crowded six-yard box to get the decisive touch and give the Lions their league first win after five attempts.
In a final twist Nuneaton’s Ash Carter was shown a red card for an off the ball incident that proved to be the last act of the afternoon.
