Guiseley were given a useful workout by a workmanlike Thackley side at Dennyfield this afternoon and got off to a winning start scoring the only goal of the game midway through the first half.
Fielding two different sides in each half the starting eleven included Declan Lambton, George Cantrill, Brad Nicholson, Hamza Bencherif, Prince Ekpolo, Kaine Felix and Gabriel Johnson.
New signings Mark Howarth, Matty Gillam, Jonathan Wafula, Andy Kellett and Dan Cowan were all given some game time together with Nathan Newall and Will Thornton who both played the whole of the second half.
The remainder of the second half line up was given over to several trailists and it was of these individuals who rifled an unstoppable shot into the top corner on 72 minutes that proved to be the winner in Guiseley’s first pre-season game.
The first half understandably took some time to get going and both sides had a couple of chances before the visitors gradually began to take charge and finished the half in the ascendancy.
The second period was a more fractured affair as Thackley rang the changes throughout the half and while three of the Guiseley trailists in particular delivered solid performances.
But the real winner today were the spectators as football made a very welcome, and some might say, overdue return.
