Lions hold Grimsby at Nethermoor

Guiseley produced a spirited display to draw 2-2 with high-flying Grimsby Town at Nethermoor in the Vanarama National League on Tuesday.

Following a disappointing display at Bromley, Mark Bower rung the changes and the decision quickly paid dividends as Rob Atkinson opened the scoring from a corner six minutes in.

However, the visitors, backed by an impressive travelling contingent, hit back and caused the Lions plenty of problems before Craig Disley levelled with a header 20 minutes in.

Grimsby felt they had taken the lead before half-time – Patrick Hoban’s header rattling the underside of the crossbar and bouncing down – only for the officials to rule it had not crossed the line.

The Lions started strongly again after the break and were in front when Nicky Boshell followed up on Will Hatfield’s spilled strike to nudge the hosts ahead.

Again, the lead was shortlived as Padraig Almond converted Evan Horwood’s cross four minutes later, prompting the Lions to come under plenty of late pressure.

Bower’s side spurned their best chance to clinch the points when Ryan Toulson was unable to find Emile Sinclair or Oli Johnson in the box, but the Guiseley boss was content to take a point ahead of Saturday’s clash with play-off hopefuls Dover Athletic at Nethermoor.
