Valiant Guiseley earned a point against the industrious Lancaster City at a drenched Nethermoor, writes David Bridson.
The Lions’ best chance fell to the returning Amir Berchil whose fierce 87th minute strike was ferociously palmed away by Brad Kelly.
Despite heavy overnight rain the game went ahead thanks to tremendous efforts from Lions staff and volunteers.
Guiseley began the game under intense pressure, camped in their own half as the visitors enjoyed possession aplenty.
Lebrun Mbeka made a stunning block to deny a sixth minute Dolly Blues attack.
Charlie Bailey’s edge of the box hit was superbly steered away by Joe Cracknell in the ninth minute.
Jack Emmett made a surging 15th minute run but the resulting corner was cleared by the sturdy visiting defence.
Sam Bailey, brother of Charlie, was a constant menace. His 25th minute cross was an eyelash away from finding a teammate.
John Lufudu made a scorching dash two minutes later but Lewis Gould couldn’t quite unscramble the ball from underneath his feet to get a shot away from the resulting pass.
Emmett made a beautiful run four minutes later but the ball through unluckily clipped the back of Gould’s legs.
Simon Grand blasted his header wide via a 33rd minute City free-kick.
Cracknell reacted well to catch Lewis Mansell’s 39th minute header from close-range.
Kelly’s strong legs majestically cleared Lufudu’s point-blank strike a minute later.
Gould headed wide via Lufudu’s 46th minute cross as Guiseley started the second-half well.
Steven Yawson’s ball across was blocked in the nick of time as the opposition battled away.
The busy Kelly then made a splendid save from Harrison Hopper’s fiery 50th minute effort.
Kelly also reacted well to keep out Jake Lawlor’s attempt a minute later as Guiseley pushed for the lead.
Emmett was controversially booked for simulation by referee Mark Reeves in the 58th minute.
Christian Sloan’s low cross was jockeyed away five minutes later.
With the game in the balance Ian Richards threw all the dice as he made a rare treble substitution in the 68th minute.
Kelly made a smart save to capture Jake Lawlor’s pinpoint 71st minute header.
Dynamic substitute Archie Christie-Crainie staggeringly kept Jack Emmett’s 74th minute ball in-play but couldn’t quite find a Guiseley man with his pass.
The lively Lawlor was nearly on the end of Hopper’s neatly placed set piece ten minutes from time.
Lawlor made an outstanding tackle to prevent a pacey 84th minute City attack.
It looked like Berchil had won the game late-on but Kelly had other ideas.
Guiseley are next in league action away at Ilkeston Town on Saturday 14th February at 3pm.
