Lions guaranteed second place

Guiseley finally secured second place this evening without kicking a ball as the only team who could catch them – FC Halifax Town – drew 1-1 at Harrogate Town.  The result leaves the Shaymen in fourth spot, 14 points adrift of the Lions’ total of 87 with only four games remaining.

Their punishing schedule of three games a week for most of April has been forced on the Shaymen due to the state of the pitch at the Shay, which has seen a myriad of postponements over the course of the season. Lions fans will get their own chance to assess the playing surface this coming Saturday.

The result also leaves Harrogate level on points with Bradford Park Avenue, and as both are six adrift of Altrincham in the last play-off place and have only three games left it’s looking increasingly likely that FC Halifax and Alty will be joining Guiseley and Brackley Town in the play-offs. The order of the final placings might become clearer next Tuesday when FC Halifax travel to face Altrincham at Moss Lane; whichever team finishes in fifth spot will host Guiseley in the first leg of the Play-Off Semi-Finals on Tuesday April 30th, with the second leg at Nethermoor on the following Saturday, 4th May.
