Lions Finally Hit Form With a 4-1 Win At Tadcaster

Two goals apiece from Jacob Gratton and Adam Haw saw the Lions through to the last eight of the West Riding County Cup where they now face Albion Sports on a date yet to be decided. Read how they did it in our match report sponsored by BuildADrive.com.

Guiseley fielded a strong team against their Northern Premier League – East opponents, including several first team regulars and they got off to the best possible start after just two minutes when Gratton was left to stroke the ball into an empty net after a defensive blunder by the the hosts.

With returning Andy Kellett running the midfield Haw went close but the Lions were pegged back on ten minutes when Charlie Marshall produced a good finish to square matters.

Josh Stones was next to try his luck but couldn’t beat home keeper Alex Hughes who then made a double stop from Haw and Gratton to keep Albion on level terms.

Further efforts from Haw, Hey and Hutchinson followed and just as it looked as though Stones would restore the visitors lead the ball bobbled and his effort from four yards out went over the bar.

Gratton was also denied by the woodwork as the teams went in level at the break with Jamie Spencer replacing Kellett on the restart and within three minutes Gratton had bagged his second goal with a header at the far post.

Eleven minutes later and it was all over as a peach of a through ball set up Haw to fire a bullet into the top of the net past the despairing Hughes.

Gratton was close to getting his hat trick but his shot was just wide and Hughes made a good stop to deny Haw once again but the young striker would not be denied as he slid in to net Ollie Metcalfe’s cross with twenty minutes remaining to seal a morale boosting victory for the Lions.
