Lions exit County Cup at first hurdle

The Lions exited the County Cup at Silsden on Tuesday – a spectacular lob from Nicholas McNally with just eight minutes remaining on the clock sealing a 2-1 win for the hosts.

Taking on a much-changed Guiseley side, Silsden had taken the lead  after just seven minutes courtesy of Joseph Mitchell’s cool finish when he latched on to a lofted clearance and kept his cool to round Daniel Atkinson and slot home only to be pegged back by Josh Snowden’s finish from close in on the stroke of half-time.

The second half was far more competitive than the first as both sides went for the win although Silsden always looked the more dangerous on the break.

Atkinson did well to keep out Mitchell’s effort before McNally’s lob from out on the left flank found the far corner. And although the Lions rallied afterwards it was the Cobbydalers who progress to the Third Round.
