Lions Earn A Crack At Stockport After Win Over Chorley

Read how Guiseley comfortably negotiated the FA Trophy Second Round tie against Chorley with a 2-0 win to set up a Third Round trip to face Stockport County at Edgeley Park on Saturday in our match report sponsored by BuildADrive.com.

Goals from Kaine Felix and Adam Haw sent Guiseley through to the next round of the Trophy and a chance to pit their wits against one of the National League favourites, Stockport County on Saturday.

Both sides started cautiously and Chorley carved out a couple of half chances but nothing that unduly worried Brad Wade in the Guiseley goal.

The Lions gradually began to get on top through applying constant pressure to the visitors back line and disrupting their flow in midfield.

Felix as proving a handful and after  being denied by Matt Urwin on a couple of occasions he finished off a sweeping move that started with Milan Butterfield’s beautifully flighted crossfield pass found Isaac Currie on the right and his astute ball inside was swept home in one movement as Felix chipped the ball over the keepers head into the far corner for the opener on 29 minutes.

The visitors started the second half in a determined mood without really creating any clear openings and once again the high energy of the home side paid dividends as Brad Nicholson saw his powerful left foot shot parried by Urwin.

Felix then returned the compliment to set up Currie but his shot from the apex of the penalty area went just over the bar.

The Lions were getting plenty of crosses into the box but invariably Urwin was the grateful recipient.

Chorley finally started to gain some momentum in the final ten minutes as they looked to rescue the game but it was all a bit lacking aimless and the home defence held firm.

So we went into four minutes of added time and when Chorley were awarded a couple of free kicks Urwin chose to run upfield to bolster the attacking options and it was his second venture into the Lions penalty area that proved to be his sides undoing. The ball was cleared to Prince Ekpolo who spotted the unmarked Adam Haw scampering down the middle from just inside his own half and sent the ball forward for the young substitute to outstrip the visitors defence, keep his cool and stroke the ball into the empty net to settle the game.

Chorley just had time to restart the game before referee Paul Brown blew the final whistle to signal the Lions second successive victory in four days.
