The trough of depression that brought the blustery weather to Nethermoor can be nothing to the one which hangs over Eastwood this evening after this seven-goal mauling by a rampant Guiseley side.
Tom Manship went within a whisker of putting Eastwood in front from their first attack before Gavin Rothery turned his marker on eight minutes to fire wide of Severn and open the floodgates. Danny Forrest bagged the second, profiting from Lee Ellington’s persistence to squeeze his shot in at the near post.
The visitors were three down just after the half hour as Rothery converted Forrest’s knockdown and Town’s first-half misery was complete just before the break when first Ciaran Toner finished a sweeping move by rifling home from 18 yards and then Severn air-kicked an attempted clearance, leaving Forrest to walk the ball into the empty net.
Two Eastwood substitutions at the restart did little to stem the flow; Simon Baldry scored with a fine header into the top corner and when Michael Burns’ cross was half cleared Rothery drove the loose ball home to seal his hat trick. Having been tormented by Forrest for most of the game Alex Troke saw red in the dying minutes, the only saving grace for the Badgers being that the scoreline wasn’t into double figures by then.
Manager Steve Kittrick, who reserved special praise for stand-in centre back Jamie Clarke and midfield goal-machine Gavin Rothery, said: “It’s always pleasing when you go and do that to a team that’s in your own league. We’ve got to roll it into Tuesday and roll it into next Saturday. The big thing is getting three points in the league at home. ”
