Lions comeback secures second pre-season victory

Second half goals from substitutes James Burgess, Alex Priestley and Zack Dale sealed a 3-1 win for the visitors at Hove Edge this evening. This after the home side had taken the lead on the half hour as Tom Matthews finished well to beat Steven Drench from ten yards out.

After Saturday’s less than convincing win at Ossett the Lions looked as though they meant business from the off with Craig Hobson and Mark Bower being denied by two good saves from Adam Lawler. But after Town had taken the lead the momentum seemed to drop and five substitutions on the restart, including the front two, showed manager Steve Kittrick’s displeasure at the first half display.

The changes certainly paid dividends as Burgess half volleyed home a Rhys Meynell cross from the left on six minutes into the second period. When Benn Smalls back header left Lawler in no-man’s land net on seventy minutes, Priestley was left with the easy task of walking the ball into the empty net. The third goal came shortly after and was created and finished by two of the other substitutes, Izzy Johnson holding the ball up on the eighteen yard line before laying off for Dale to hit a blistering shot into the top corner.
