Lions bounce back against Bay

Guiseley returned to winning ways on Saturday as goals from Adam Boyes, Oli Johnson and Wayne Brooksby ensured a 3-1 win at Colwyn Bay.

After the disappointment of Tuesday’s narrow defeat to Chorley, the Lions rarely looked like slipping up again in North Wales and Mark Bower’s men got their  play-off bid back on track while also welcoming Gavin Rothery back from injury.

Amid a positive start from the visitors, Danny Boshell produced an inch-perfect pass to find Boyes behind the Bay back line. The striker then slipped the ball underneath the onrushing goalkeeper to open the scoring just five minutes in.

The onslaught continued as Boyes turned provider for Johnson eight minutes later. After a cross into the box, the former Gateshead man nodded the ball to Johnson who headed home the visitors’ second.

Bower’s side took that lead into the break and, having survived a flurry of Bay chances early in the second half, nailed down the points when Brooksby added a third.

The tricky Johnson was fouled on the edge of the area with Brooksby on hand to curl home the resulting set-piece.

Obi Anuruo’s consolation proved just that as Guiseley kept the pressure on those around them ahead of Monday’s visit of Stalybridge Celtic to Nethermoor.
