Defeat to Barrow at Nethermoor on Tuesday confirmed our relegation to the National League North after a difficult season.

The Daggers are on an impressive run after financial problems hit the Essex based club earlier this year.

Before Tuesday night’s defeat to Bromley they hadn’t lost since their last visit to West Yorkshire when they came up against FC Halifax Town, Lions loanee Mike Fondop scored the winner that night.

Their unbeaten run includes wins against Wrexham, AFC Fylde and Maidstone as well as holding Gateshead and Woking to draws.

Sean St Ledger thought the Lions had the better chances in the loss but knows that not taking those has been a problem all campaign “I think we dominated the game overall, we had a period where we really struggled.”

“As a game we had the better chances but football is about what happens in both boxes, if you make errors and don’t put the ball in the back of the net you will lose games.”

“If there is a game that sums up our season that was probably it, second half we passed the ball much better than we have done and I am trying to implement that.”

When speaking about his spell as Interim Manager he said “I can’t ask the players for any more, they have given everything. We need to get off the foot of the table, I am driven as a player and a manager.”

The squad was bolstered by the return of John Rooney on Tuesday night, now two more players become available “I do believe we have recalled Elliot Green and Curtis Morrison, it is an opportunity for players who are outside of the squad to play and show what you are all about.”

Elliot Green has had a long period out injured and is currently at Alfreton Town, meanwhile Curtis Morrison has spent the entire season out on loan after impressing in the friendlies, his spell with Matlock Town has been cut short.

Both players are yet to make an appearance this campaign.

When asked about future plans Sean said “I will try and build as if I am here next season.”

“I have to admit management has given me an appetite to go on and do that after I finish football, whether I am finished yet we will see. I have really enjoyed my time here, the players are fantastic to work with, the people and fans have been fantastic since I have been here, the results have been up and down but I cannot speak highly enough of the people. Everyone who works for the club has the best interests of Guiseley.”

It remains to be seen whether the switch to full time training will continue but St Ledger is keen to see that stay in place “We have to move forward as a football club and bounce back next season, it won’t be easy there are seven or so full time football clubs there now, it will be tough.”

“I don’t think it is a coincidence that five of the top seven are full time clubs, if you go full time you have time to implement your coaching sessions and ideas, that would be my advice whether I am here or not.”

The former Republic of Ireland International was also keen to praise the people behind the scenes at Nethermoor “The owners, people and the board, everyone is fantastic here and I am sure we will have discussions.”

“Maybe I have brought everyone together but it is about getting results, if I can do that as well as bring the club and community together then that is fantastic.”

Looking ahead to Thursday night the Interim Manager said “I think it will almost be a different eleven that will play.”

“We have to try and get off the foot of the table first and foremost, as footballers you have to have the right attitude and give 100%.”

“They are obviously flying high, I have watched videos of them they are a good side, it will be a difficult game.”
