Lions And Kiddy In Goalless Stalemate

In a game where chances were at a premium Guiseley and second-placed Kidderminster shared the spoils at a sunny but chilly Nethermoor this afternoon.

Joint managers Russ O’Neill and Marcus Bignot chose to rotate their squad and give some game time to some of those returning from injury ahead of Tuesday’s home game against Blyth and next Saturday’s visit to Darlington.

With Andy Halls suspended recent loan signing Jo Cummings made his debut at centre back while two of last Saturday’s scorers in the win over Stourbridge, Kaine Felix and Lewis Walters, were in the starting lineup with Kingsley James dropping to the bench.

Guiseley’s best chance of the first half fell to Will Thornton as he got on the end of Alex Purver’s free kick but put his header wide.

For their part the Harriers produce a flowing move down the left flank that ended with Declan Weeks side footing his effort the wrong side of the post from six yards out.

Ashley Chambers also lobbed Joe Green just before the break but his shot landed on the top of the net.

The second period saw Niall Heaton nearly catch out Brandon Hall with a snapshot as the visiting keeper parried the full backs fierce drive.

Will Hatfield had a late chance to steal the points  for the home side but his effort was high and wide from substitute Paul Clayton’s lay off.

Despite five minutes of added time neither side was able to find the crucial breakthrough and so the Lions grabbed a share of the points and maintained their ongoing improvement against the pre-season promotion contenders and had lost only two league games so far this season. In doing so they also reduced the League’s leading scorer Edward Williams to a cameo role.
