Lewis Whitham Joins The Lions

We are delighted to announce the signing of Lewis Whitham for an undisclosed fee from Alfreton Town.

Guiseley AFC have made a further bid to strengthen their squad with the addition of winger Lewis Whitham, who has signed for an undisclosed fee from Alfreton, writes Rachel O’Connor.

The 21 year-old winger joined Alfreton at the start of the current season after being one of the stars in Liversedge’s title winning side.

The explosive attacker joined Billy Heath’s side after a brief spell at Liversedge, where he played with current Guiseley players Nicky Walker, Ross Daly and Spencer Harris.

The youngster’s time with Liversedge may have been brief but he certainly left a mark contributing heavily to their title win. His path to the National League North was meteoric but well deserved.

Whitham’s early development was led by manager Chris Hilton at Stocksbridge Park Steels, a club he joined as a youngster and made it to the first team by the age of 17.

The player, who has been tipped by many for a long time to be a National North player in the making, was converted from a striker to a winger by Hilton.

Whitham explained: “I was doing well as a striker as a youngster but when I reached the first team at Stocksbridge the strikers in that league were a lot bigger than me. My pace and ability to go direct are my strengths and I hope to show that at Guiseley.”

He added: “I am hoping to be involved against Warrington, I want to help the side kick on in their quest for promotion. The management sound very positive and I am buzzing to get started. I want to challenge myself and it was a no brainer to take the opportunity to join a club like Guiseley.”

The Barnsley-born player works as a football coach for DSC Elite Football Academy in Barnsley.
