Lacklustre Guiseley missed the chance to leapfrog Eastwood Town – who’s appeal against their failure to secure the necessary ground grading required to take part in the play-offs was dismissed by the FA earlier today – and move into fifth.
Despite taking a 21st minute lead through James Walshaw they created very few genuine openings and suffered the consequences when Darren Edwards squred matters just before the hour.
Even then the Lions didn’t heed the warning and were lucky not to concede again when George Lloyds shot came back of the inside of the post straight into Steve Drench’s arms.
After a quiet opening twenty minutes the game sprung to life when the quick thinking Walshaw netted after Kevin Sawyer had fumbled Darryn Stamps shot; that after the ball had pinged around the area before arriving at the feet of the big striker.
Adam Mann lashed a shot just over before the break and the equiliser came on 59 minutes as a cross-cum-shot hit the inside of Drench’s post and rebounded across the goal line leaving Edwards with the simple task of tapping it home.
Shortly afterwards Drench must have been thanking his lucky stars as he clutched the rebound of the post. Prior to this substitute Mike Tambling missed a great chance ghosting in from the left only to put his effort the wrong side of the post.
Walshaw forced a good save from Sawyer but too many passes failed to find their intended recipient despite Stamp leading the line with aplomb and laying off some deft passes only for his colleagues to fail in the final execution.
