Lacklustre Lions Share Points In Bore Draw

Guiseley came into this game on the back of two solid performances at Hyde and Gainsborough but eventually had to settle for a draw against newcomers Warrington Rylands who took the lead from the spot through Callum Dolan before Lebrun Mbeka buried a header from a corner four minutes later writes John Clements.

Both sides struggled to get a foothold in the game in a first half that was punctuated by shots sailing over the bar into the car park and the netting at the railway end.

Jake Cassidy and John Johnston went close for the home side while Kelly N’Mai was proving a handful for the Lions defence who had Kyle Trenerry to thank for keeping them in the game at half-time after he had made two good stops, although James Nield should have put the visitors ahead but with only Trenerry to beat he pulled his shot well wide.

Cassidy and Johnston had both gone close for the Lions but it was Warrington who took the lead on 51 minutes when Dolan calmly sent Trenerry the wrong way from the penalty spot after Ethen Vaughan had caught N’Mai from behind.

However, the lead lasted just a matter of four minutes as Mbeka climbed above a posse of players in and around the six-yard box to head home a Johnston corner on 55 minutes and level matters.

Johnston then found Haw with a precision cross but his glancing header was just off target.

The winger then found himself the recipient of a Cassidy ball to the far post but his header lacked power as he attempted to beat Samuel Tickle in the Rylands goal from an acute angle.

At the other end Trenerry was alert to stop Dolan grabbing a second before the last chance of a forgettable encounter fell to Haw, but his effort went the wrong side of the post.

Goalkeeper Trenerry was rightfully awarded Man-of-the-Match for his heroics but with the exception of Mbeka the Guiseley midfield was largely absent for much of the game and with Qasim stuck out on the left the Lions never carried the threat that had been so prevalent in the previous two games. But with no midweek fixtures the two Danny’s have the opportunity to sort out the teams tactics ahead of the Isuzu FA Trophy Tie against Whitby Town  at Nethermoor next Saturday.
