The Lions entertained Bradford City in the second of their pre-season home friendlies against League opposition at Nethermoor this afternoon and forced a creditable draw against a Bantams side that included several unnamed trialists and established first teamers playing their first public outing under new manager Stewart McCall.
The first half was primarily concentrated in the midfield although the visitors had the slight edge but found Guiseley keeper in imperious form as he pulled of a two superb saves before Mark Marshall hit the bar for the Bantams.
The second half was a much more upbeat affair as City bounced one off the top of the bar early on before Atkinson made two more superb saves to keep the scores level.
All this changed though when Michael Rankine’s free kick was tipped on to the post and then former City Youth Captain Sam Wright played a smart ball up to Adam Boyes who fed Oli Johnson in the channel for the returning striker to shoot into the far corner for the opener.
The Lions created a couple of half chances after this but a quickly taken free kick was squared to one of City’s trialists who lashed an unstoppable shot into the top corner to square matters. Both sides had chances to win the game in the closing moments but a draw was probably a fair reflection of the game overall.
