We are delighted to announce that forward Jake Wright has joined the club as our second new signing of the summer.
Guiseley AFC have added to their attacking options by signing Buxton forward Jake Wright, writes Rachel O’Connor.
Wright, 27, is not to be confused with the Boston defender of the same name. The pair played together for Boston for four seasons, a time in which the Guiseley signing scored 27 goals in 85 games for the Lincolnshire club.
It was a period in which he had to carry the word Junior behind his name, a tag he now wishes to discard and be recognised in his own right.
Wright has plenty of National League and National League North experience and has made his mark in the past with York City, Harrogate Town and Gateshead after having been a scholar in the Sheffield United Academy and becoming a pro for three years. He played one first team game for The Blades.
The player, who also had a loan spell at Southport, is now looking forward to joining Guiseley – a club he has heard good things about from his former teammates Connor Brown and Jordan Thewlis.
Wright said: “I am looking forward to getting started. I like to play down the middle and I will give 110 per cent. We don’t want to be in this league, we need to crack on and get promotion.”
He added: “We need to build a good base in pre-season and although results are not everything in pre-season games we need to get some wins to build momentum.”
Away from football Wright is an office manager for a gas company. Although his full focus is on football these days he was good enough in his youth as a cricketer to have trials with Derbyshire.
The player admits that his favourite ground is Leeds United’s Elland Road where he once played for Sheffield United Under-21s.
Wright said his personal ambition for the new season is the same as the club’s – promotion.
“Anything else would be a failure,” he concluded.
Jake’s home, away and training kits are all available to sponsor – email admin@guiseleyafc.co.uk for more information.
