Inconsistency costs Lions again

Former Guiseley defender Simon Ainge led his new club to a 2-1 triumph on his old stamping ground with his goal plus Richard Marshall’s winner trumping a tenth-minute penalty from Nicky Boshell.

The Lions had initially taken the game to the visitors and they were gifted an early lead when Danny Boshell was fouled just inside the area, brother Nicky sending John Danby the wrong way from the resulting spot kick.

But, instead of pressing home the advantage, the Lions retreated into their shells as their opponents came more into the game, and Avenue grabbed a deserved equalizer on forty minutes when Ainge was left unmarked to convert an easy header at the back post from a corner on the right.

Nicky Boshell glanced a header just wide before the break but it was the visitors who started the second half on the front foot and they would have taken the lead midway through the half but for a point-blank save from Steven Drench from Chib Chilaka.

Nicky Boshell lobbed an effort just the wrong side of the post and Adam Boyes tested Danby on a couple of occasions but Marshall converted another corner at the death to give the Avenue a deserved victory over a decidedly lacklustre Guiseley.
