Sheffield Wednesday Ladies 0-7 Guiseley Ladies
Sunday saw a first visit for Guiseley to Sheffield Wednesday Ladies FC in the League Cup Southern Area Quarter Final.
After a five-week break due to Christmas and inclement weather, it was a relief that the pitch had thawed out enough for the fixture to take place.
From the start of the game Guiseley dominated completely and passed the ball well at high tempo. Having so much possession it was no surprise when Nadine Bates cut in from the left side and fired an unstoppable shot into the top corner to give Guiseley an early lead.
This lead was quickly doubled when full back Kerrie Zserdicky joined in a good passing move and slotted the ball past the Sheffield Wednesday goalkeeper.
The scoreline quickly increased to 3-0 when a Guiseley corner was only partially cleared and Tanya Rich scored from the edge of the penalty area.
After 20 minutes the game was effectively over at 4-0 when Rachel Landricombe cut in from the right before rounding the goalkeeper and scoring her first goal of the season.
After 30 minutes Caroline Hulme scored her first goal of the game after Tanya Rich drew the goalkeeper before rolling the ball to give a simple finish and Guiseley went in at half-time with a 5-0 lead.
Making 3 substitutions inevitably had some impact on the fluency of Guiseley’s game and, to their credit, Sheffield Wednesday never let their heads drop and came into the game to an extent.
Guiseley still looked dangerous every time they attacked and Caroline Hulme completed her hat-trick with 2 excellent finishes to seal a 7-0 away win for Guiseley.
We would like to thank Sheffield Wednesday Ladies for their excellent hospitality and wish their young team well for the remainder of the season.
