Huddersfield return to Nethermoor

Saturday’s friendly is sponsored by The Moody Cow in Apperley Bridge and Ilkley.

Guiseley make their return after the summer break in this Saturday’s pre-season friendly at home against Championship side Huddersfield Town.

As the Lions prepare for their maiden Vanarama National League campaign, Huddersfield provide familiar opponents with this being the fourth meeting between the sides in as many years.

This time last year the Terriers came out on top with a 4-1 win at Nethermoor but previous encounters have resulted in a 2-2 draw in 2013 and a 1-0 Guiseley win, courtesy of a Danny Forrest strike, the season before that.

The game will provide a chance for fans to see new signings Adam Lockwood and Will Hatfield in action – the pair having both signed during the close-season.

Chris Powell’s Huddersfield side will provide a stern test for the Lions, with the team that finished 16th in last season’s Championship having bolstered their squad with the signings of experienced midfielder Dean Whitehead and Australian international Jason Davidson.

Speaking ahead of Saturday’s game, manager Mark Bower told Sandy Beeson: “The lads have done a lot of hard work but it’s always nice to get involved in a proper game again.

“It’ll be a good test of our fitness as well and a good workout for the lads but at the same time it’s an opportunity for us to go and cause Huddersfield some problems with the players we’ve got.

“Ultimately though it’s about fitness. We’ll be making sure the lads get enough game time in them with a view to building them up as we go on.”

The only injury concern is long-term absentee Ben Parker, who has returned to training following an ankle injury and is expected to complete his recovery in the coming weeks.

Kick-off at Nethermoor on Saturday is at 3pm. Admission for adults is priced at £10, concessions are £5 while those between 12 and 18 are can also gain free admission. Entry is free for under-12s with a paying adult.

The Lions then face Barnsley on Tuesday before travelling to Brighouse on Saturday, July 18th. A full pre-season fixture list is available on the website.
