Honours Even As Lions Held By Spartans

Guiseley played out an entertaining draw with Blyth Spartans at Nethermoor Park where the chances were free-flowing but the goals never came, writes Joe Priestley.

Early chances fell to Jordan Thewlis and John Lufudu as the Lions started brightly but they were not able to find the net as the Blyth defence held firm.

The first half devolved into a more scrappy affair as Blyth attempted to wrestle control from the Lions with few further chances to note as the halftime whistle loomed.

In the second half chances came in droves with John Lufudu making a mazy run on the hour mark and a half-volley from Charlie Aitken threatening as the Lions and their visitors traded blows.

The introduction of substitute Jack Emmett added extra impetus for the Lions but ultimately Blyth goalkeeper Harrison Bond was not to be beaten and despite a late onslaught from Lufudu, Jordan Thewlis and Emmett.

Ultimately the referee called time following the end of a spell of Guiseley pressure. The Lions kept an impressive clean sheet but were unable to breach Blyth’s resolute defence as the two teams played out an entertaining 0-0 draw.
