After a frustrating afternoon of missed opportunities, Kevin Holsgrove’s strike in the penultimate minute of five added on gave Guiseley three points against a spirited Vauxhall Motors side who could themselves been two up at half-time.
Early on in what could be Vauxhall’s last visit to Nethermoor as a Conference side, good work by Kynan Mason was wasted by Lloyd Ellams who with the goal at his mercy shot straight at Steven Drench.
Steve Tames then suffered the same fate as the visitors speed down the flanks was proving a cause of concern for the home side who could have taken the lead early on had Oli Johnson’s pullback not been too fast for Holsgrove to catch.
Johnson then combined with his namesake Alex, but his final shot lacked power and Wayne Brooksby also had a goal chalked off for the Lions due to an offside flag.
Alex Johnson shot straight at Zac Jones on the restart and then berated his strike partner out of frustration that Holsgrove’s cross had failed to find him unmarked at the far post.
Holsgrove was then presented with the opportunity to give the Lions the lead their play deserved but having been put through by Wayne Brooksby his shot was smothered by Jones.
Brooksby’s jinking run ended with a ball across the six yard box that found no takers before Holsgrove hit the bar and Jones was mightily relieved to get a hand to Michael Potts deflected shot.
With the clock ticking down the home side were awarded a corner on the right and when Tom Hannigan’s clearing header fell to Holsgrove the big striker who rifled home from twelve yards to send the home fans into delirium.
