Heed Profit From Lions Indecision

Both Guiseley sides tasted defeat for the first time this season as Gateshead triumphed 2-1  at Nethermoor and West Auckland won by the only goal of the game at Durham Road.

Rowan Liburd scored for the second successive Saturday to put the Lions ahead early in the second half but the Heed were level shortly after when Jo Green hauled down Steven Rigg and although he dived to his right to palm away the resulting spot kick, Lewis Maloney was on hand to tuck home the rebound.

Green was again at full stretch to save Luke Armstrong’s initial effort but the Gateshead front man found space to place a shot into the opposite corner and put his side ahead.

Despite some intensive pressure on then visitors goal late on the home side were unable to craft an opening and level matters and the focus now turns to next week home games against Bolton Wanderers and Leeds United on Tuesday and Thursday repectively.
