Josh Gowling’s bundled effort was the only goal of the game at Hereford’s Edgar Street ground as The Lions fell to a fourth consecutive 1-0 defeat on Saturday.
The game is one that will not live long in the memory of the 2261 in attendance, the 53 travelling faithful had to wait until the closing stages for a meaningful effort on goal.
The first half saw limited chances for both sides but Elliot Richards did force Marcus Dewhurst into a save.
Dewhurst was tested again when Finn cut inside but his effort was weak and it was an easy save for the 18 year-old.
In the closing stages of the first 45 minutes the visitors had three corners in quick succession but Hereford managed the danger on all of them and the half-time whistle was blown.
It was hoped the second half would be a much livelier affair but it took 15 minutes for the first real chance of the game.
Mike Symons was put through by Lance Smith and only had Dewhurst to beat but the big striker saw his effort saved by the keeper’s feet.
George Cantrill went into the book for a foul and paid the ultimate price as Hereford scored from the set piece.
Danny Greenslade’s free kick somehow found its way to Gowling at the back post and the defender bundled the ball past Dewhurst for the match winner.
It was in the 87th minute that Halls’ header went well wide of the goal, this was the closest The Lions had come all game before the next chance.
Then in injury time captain Scott Garner was sent forward and the central defender saw his effort clawed away by Matt Yates and the danger was cleared.
