Gordon Colquhoun 1932-2020

We are extremely saddened to hear the passing of Gordon Colquhoun who signed for The Lions in the late 1950’s.

88 year-old Gordon was praised by Michael Stocks, “He was fast as you can get and good with it at his feet”.

Joe Priestley met with Gordon’s wife Christine to discuss her husband’s time with the club and when he nearly signed by Don Revie “He really wanted to sign him” and for a while it really looked as if Gordon was on his way to the big time however Christine told me “he (Revie) thought Gordon was 23 or 24 not 27 so he was too old”. But, instead of recounting what could’ve been Christine simply grinned and replied “So if Gordon had been a bit younger, I could’ve been a wag! Like Colleen Rooney!”

Gordon was living in a care home where he was receiving help following a diagnosis with dementia, our thoughts are with Gordon’s family and friends at this sad time.

RIP Gordon.
