Free-scoring Oxford next up

By Tom Feaheny

Guiseley welcome Oxford City to Nethermoor on Saturday in the Vanarama Conference North for a 3pm kick-off.

The Lions will be eager to get back to winning ways after two consecutive draws – having gained a point against Hednesford Town last weekend after Adam Boyes’ second-half strike was cancelled out in added time.

Prior to that, Mark Bower’s side were held by Colwyn Bay on home turf and the Guiseley boss is well aware of the threat posed by an Oxford side who have been among the goals in recent weeks.

Having been beaten 8-1 by AFC Fylde, Oxford have won all three games since – scoring 14 goals in the process.

The mini-run saw City bounce back with an emphatic 7-2 win at Boston United before seeing off Gainsborough Trinity 2-0 at home. They then made the trip to our local rivals Bradford Park Avenue in midweek and ran out 5-0 winners at the Horsfall.

“We’re going to have to be very wary against them and their strengths,” Mark said.

“They did very well on the counter attack against Boston, I imagine they would come and do that against us, so we will have to make sure we are ready for that and go about our business in the right way.”

Guiseley know that a win at Nethermoor will see them go level on points with Oxford who currently sit third in the table while the Lions sit just outside the play-off places in sixth but boast a game in hand on their opposition.
