The Lions are back at Nethermoor on Saturday with Southport the visitors and it will be streamed live for FREE on YouTube from 2:45pm.
As fans are still not able to attend we want to make our matches as accessible as we can, we would encourage anyone to “pay what it’s worth” via our Crowdfunder page here to help cover our matchday costs.
We are still incurring matchday running costs of around £800 per home game and whilst we’re still awaiting the details of the government’s financial package, we would ideally like to see these covered to keep the free livestreams running. Any funds raised in excess of this figure will be put towards purchasing upgraded equipment for our excellent Guiseley Radio team, who voluntarily provide match commentary at all games home and away.
Don’t forget to subscribe to our YouTube channel to be the first to hear about our latest video uploads.
The Lions fell to back to back defeats on Tuesday night at Chorley’s Victory Park ground after Saturday’s 3-1 defeat by Brackley Town at Nethermoor.
It will be the first meeting with Southport since our 3-0 loss at The Pure Stadium way back in August 2019 after the reverse fixture fell to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Marcus Bignot and Russ O’Neill will be looking for a reaction from their side after just two league wins all season, one coming on home soil over Blyth Spartans and the other coming at Spennymoor’s Brewery Field ground last week.
Southport have also struggled for wins lately and they sit seven points and 11 places ahead of The Lions in 10th place having played two games more.
Liam Watson’s side have recorded just one win in their last seven games, losing four in that time and drawing two.
They were able to welcome fans back last week with Merseyside sitting in tier 2, however Farsley Celtic went home 1-0 winners.
After Tuesday night’s loss at Chorley Marcus Bignot said “It was a game of two halves, we found our intensity in the second half but when you come up against Chorley, who are in fine form, you cannot afford not to play at the levels required. The positive was we were still in the game in terms of the scoreline but the second half we came out and played at the intensity required and were unfortunate not to come away with a point.”
Speaking of Brad Nicholson’s injury the Joint Manager said “We had the momentum, we were pushing for the equaliser and made positive subs but we were wary of not making too many subs too early on but we left it until five minutes to go. It nearly paid off though, Joshua Parsons with a fine cross which just eluded everyone.”
Two new signings made their debut on Tuesday night, Marcus was asked for more about Josh Parsons and Miracle Okafor “Josh and Miracle are from my academy, we saw Reiss McNally, Dylan Barkers and Aram Soleman come through it last year, again these are boys along with our own academy boys who are ready but our injury list is endless, I believe before tonight we had seven players out and it takes it toll. It is not just a case of filling the bench we had 17 players available for tonight including the two new signings, Josh played longer than Miracle and you have seen Josh’s quality on the ball tonight with that cross.”
The Lions could be without Brad Nicholson, Andy Kellett, Lewis Hey, Matty Gillam, Isaac Currie, Ashton Hall and Jack Ryan through injury with Prince Ekpolo serving the final game of his three match suspension.
