Fourmidable Young Lions Make It Three Wins On The Spin

Guiseley AFC U19 Academy heaped more misery on Darlington FC U19’s sorrowful season, as a 4-0 home win saw them ease to victory, writes Raphael Adelugba.

A win could’ve taken the Darlington off the foot of the table, with FC Halifax Town U19 losing, but the loss still leaves them at the bottom with six games remaining.

Despite the scoreline’s superiority, Guiseley began the first half cautiously, with much of the possession being shared between the respective half of each side. Nonetheless, they broke the deadlock by capitalising on the visitor’s lack of composure on and off the ball. Darlington were caught off guard by a sharp one-two goal, as the away side were caught slacking in their own half and punished by Danyaal Khan, who tucked his finish into the far corner.

The visitors could smell the fear, so they hunted their prey at every opportunity, and they were once again successful.

Danyaal Khan, a player who had been terrifying the away sides backline all game; received the ball within the six-yard box and, on the swivel, was able to bundle his effort in.

However, despite the upbeat feel about the quality that may be around the visitor’s camp, it was completely shadowed by a clinical Guiseley side.

Two quick-fire goals minutes after the interval, one being an own goal that summed up the lackadaisical defensive approach from the away team, and the other being a 20-yard curler from Oliwier Grzelak was enough to see the home side ease to victory.

The result takes Guiseley to fifth place, as they target a top-four finish.
