Guiseley swept aside Warrington Town with a spectacular 4-0 victory at Nethermoor, writes David Bridson.
Lebrun Mbeka opened the scoring after just eight minutes with a close-range header after the ball bizarrely bounced off the bar twice.
Elliot Owen doubled the Lions’ advantage ten minutes later with a crisp headed finish via a delicious Harrison Hopper corner.
Ollie Brown’s lovely edge-of-the-box strike trebled Guiseley’s lead mid-way through the first-half.
Jordan Thewlis completed the rout with a neat header in the 53rd minute to send Lions fans home delirious.
Guiseley came into the game having scored just two goals in six matches. They now boast six in seven thanks to this impressive performance.
The Lions had their visitors on the backfoot early, vigorously pressing them back.
Mbeka’s early goal left him grounded for some time after a nasty clash with Town goalkeeper Liam Isherwood as both made a beeline for the ball.
Thankfully the captain went on to guide his team to a stunning victory.
Brown headed visiting winger Devarn Green’s cross away in the 16th minute as the home side stood firm.
A minute later Hopper’s fierce shot was scrambled clear by Town.
Calum Hudson hit just wide from that corner ahead of the one an unmarked Owen leapt up at to double the lead.
Guiseley showed no let-up – the returning Thewlis forcing Isherwood to punch his powerful cross away in the 24th minute.
Brown’s superb strike into the bottom right hand corner then gave the Lions a three goal lead.
Creative wizard Amir Berchil’s beautiful curling effort was met with a breathtaking Isherwood save in the 32nd minute.
The Lions were relentless – Thewlis’ header slipped narrowly wide a minute later.
A second Berchil curler flew over in the 35nd minute.
Lions goalkeeper Joe Cracknell made an extraordinary stop from Green’s snap-shot two minutes later.
Jay Harris’ shot was stemmed away well by the sturdy Guiseley defence shortly after.
The menacing Thewlis headed wide deep into first half stoppage time.
Guiseley resumed the attacking pressure in the second half as Jack Emmett’s 48th minute shot was blocked.
Kyle White’s low strike via a blistering run was palmed away by Isherwood a minute later.
Lucas Odunston’s fine cross enabled Thewlis to head home the fourth into the bottom corner.
The dangerous Emmett fired narrowly over four minutes later.
Lions substituute John Lufudu made a dazzling run before being hauled down in the 65th minute.
White’s drive was then put behind for a corner but pandemonium followed as Town scrambled away after penalty box ping-pong.
Cracknell kept Guiseley’s clean sheet hopes alive with a solid catch from Green’s 68th minute strike.
Isherwood also did well to save White’s free-kick five minutes later.
The busy away goalkeeper was on high alert to prevent Hopper adding further damage moments after.
Town hurried for some solace from a game long beyond their reach.
Cracknell fiercely punched Elliott Morris’ free kick away with ten minutes remaining.
Joe Rodwell-Grant saw his 81st minute shot steered away by a robust Lions defence.
The Wire’s Scott Butler headed wide via a corner two minutes later.
The steely Owen stood firm in the wall to head Rodwell-Grant’s 85th minute free-kick over.
A staggering 89th palm away by Cracknell via the same Town attacker solidified Guiseley’s clean sheet.
Brown nearly grabbed a brace a minute later but Isherwood saved his strike well.
The outstanding victory sees Guiseley leap to tenth in the Pitching In Northern Premier League Premier Division.
The Lions are next in action away at Cleethorpes Town on Saturday 28th February with a 3pm kick-off.
