Guiseley Community Foundation are proud to be honouring loyal Guiseley AFC supporter John Bridson with an annual football tournament, writes David and Adam Bridson.
Boys and girls football tournaments for The John Bridson Trophy, involving local schools, will start in the coming months. The finals will take place at Nethermoor Park, the home of Guiseley AFC.
The £1000 raised from the celebration of John Bridson’s life was donated to the Foundation by the Bridson family.
Local schools will be taking part in the tournament and Steve Taylor Foundation Manager said “We are proud to host this tournament in John’s memory. This honours the life of a proud and respected member of the club’s family widely recognised not only at Nethermoor but within the local community. John was a keen supporter of the foundation and I think he would be happy to see the money donated to this worthy cause.”
“The tournament will give the children who take part the opportunity to play on the Nethermoor Park pitch as well as all the benefits playing football brings.”
Andy Brennan, Guiseley Community Foundation Chairman said “I am proud to have known John and I am sure he would agree that this annual tournament offers children a fantastic experience.”
“The Foundation is delighted to work in the local area and this football competition gives us the ability to further our reach within surrounding schools.”
John’s wife Lynn Bridson said “I would like to thank everyone who donated in tribute to John to make this possible. John was a very fit man who took a keen interest in many sports, his favourite being football.”
“John liked to encourage participation in sports for people of all ages. He would be happy to see the money raised used in such a positive way.”
“I would like to thank the Foundation for organising this annual event. Me and our three children, David, Joanne and Adam are all proud to see such a fitting tribute to John.”
