On loan striker Danny Forrest’s second goat in the three games was enough to clinch the victory in this ‘six pointer’ between two sides pushing for the promotion and play-off places. The victory ensures that Guiseley stay right in the mix, still with games in hand on all but one of their rivals, Alfreton Town, who they visit on Tuesday.
Both sides were quick out of the blocks and both had penalty appeals turned down in the first five minutes before a tantalizing cross from the right just evaded Matt Smith and Dave Merris came to the home sides rescue. James Walshaw’s drive down the middle shrugging off defenders as he went was only halted by a timely intervention from Sam Adkins.
Ryan Beswick showed some sublime skills to waltz past three Guiseley players and bring a diving save fro Steven Drench before Forrest drifted in from the right and put in a shot that was heading for the top corner only to see Jasbir Singh pull of a magnificent one handed save to tip he ball round the post.
Defender Danny Ellis cleared off the line early in the second half for the Lions but from then on it was mainly one way traffic as O’Niell, Walshaw and Rothery all went close before Forrest repeated his move from the first half to hit a sweet left foot shot from eighteen yards that left Singh clawing at fresh air as the ball flew into the net for what proved to be the decisive strike and send the home fans into raptures of delight.
