A Lee Shaw hat trick and a thunderous shot from Dylan Barkers plus a smart finish by Gabriel Johnson saw the Lions ease through to a West Riding County Cup Semi-Final tie at Harrogate Town.
With Saturday’s game at Kettering postponed the Guiseley management took the opportunity to give the first team squad a workout against a Goole side who play there divisions below the Lions in the Northern Counties East Premier Division.
The game started as expected with the visitors and favourites on the front foot but despite several assaults on the home goal it wasn’t until the twenty second minute that the breakthrough came when Shaw finished a fine move with aplomb to beat Aiden Smith from close in for the opener and that’s how it stayed until the break.
The second half saw something of a goal fest as Shaw grabbed his second as he converted Johnson’s low cross and Dylan Barkers thunderous shot put the Lions three up.
Gabriel Johnson added a fourth with a smart run down the left channel before former Lion Devonte Morton converted a spot kick to give the home side some hope just after the hour.
Spurred on by their breakthrough the Vikings further reduced the deficit with eight minutes left on the clock with a low show into the corner past Bradley Wade only for Shaw to capitalise on some great approach play to complete his hat trick and restore the visitors three goal lead.
As a result of the victory Guiseley now travel to Wetherby Road to face Harrogate Town in the Semi-Final with the winners playing either Thackley or Farsley – who play their Semi at Dennyfield on Tuesday 25th February – in the Final.
