End Of Season Loan Update

This season has seen many players come and go through the door at Nethermoor Park whilst a number of the squad have remained contracted to the Lions playing their football out on loan.

We’ve rounded up the season for our loan stars including George Gomersall, Scott Smith, Reece Thompson, Curtis Morrison, Elliot Green, Will Wells, Lee Molyneux, Frank Mulhern, Rob Atkinson, Jake Lawlor and Mike Fondop.

Young Lions George Gomersall and Scott Smith both started the season at Goole but the former switched in December to join fellow basement battlers Brighouse Town.

Both have made a good impression during their loans with Smith scoring a few vital goals and bagging a couple of Man of the Match awards.

Striker Reece Thompson has also spent the majority of the season away from LS20 with a move to Boston proving very successful.

His spell in Lincolnshire saw him score several goals and help The Pilgrims pull away from the relegation zone to fighting for a play off spot.

The former York City man also won the Boston United Supporters Association Favourite Player of the Season Award.

Winger Curtis Morrison started the campaign at Buxton before switching to his former club Matlock Town.

Sean St Ledger recalled the 20 year-old and featured him in three games at the back end of the season.

Curtis has since signed a deal to remain with the club next season.

In defence Elliot Green and Will Wells have both had temporary moves away from Nethermoor.

Elliot recovered from a nasty injury picked up last season to feature for Alfreton Town before being recalled by Sean St Ledger to make his first Lions appearances this season at the end of the campaign.

Wells has spent time at two different clubs, he started out at Ossett Albion but then moved to Farsley Celtic who were knocked out of the Evo-Stik Premier Division Play-Offs at the semi-final stage by eventual winners Ashton United.

In the forward line Lee Molyneux and Frank Mulhern have both being plying their trade in the Vanarama National League North.

Lee went to Chorley at the start of 2018 as the Magpies made it to the Play-Off semi-finals where they were defeated 2-1 with a last minute strike from Harrogate Town, unfortunately for the former Morecambe man he was sent off just before half-time.

Mulhern enjoyed spells at Alfreton Town and Harrogate Town before settling with Bradford Park Avenue. The Horsfall based side made the Play-Offs in dramatic fashion when Adam Boyes’ last minute strike at Kidderminster saw them leapfrog Spennymoor to 7th place.

Frank had equalised proceedings just 10 minutes earlier in that game but it wasn’t to be for the Avenue who were knocked out in extra time at Brackley Town.

Joining the former Huddersfield Town and Leeds United striker at BPA was Rob Atkinson who featured heavily for the side despite suffering an injury during the move. Mark Bower was quick to snap up one of his former centre backs when he became available.

Jake Lawlor made a move to AFC Fylde where they also lost in the play-offs at the first time of asking, Boreham Wood were the victors in Hertfordshire.

The popular defender had suffered a bad injury on New Year’s Day but returned in time to help AFC Fylde’s rise up the table.

Finally Mike Fondop enjoyed a successful spell at FC Halifax Town when he was signed up by new boss Jamie Fullarton.

The big striker scored four goals as the Shayman easily secured survival in Non League’s top tier.
