Russ O’Neill wants no repeat of the Boxing Day thrashing The Lions were handed by Bradford (Park Avenue) when Altrincham come to Nethermoor on Saturday for a 3pm kick-off.
The Joint Manager was critical of his side’s display against the league leaders and does not want it to happen again but Altrincham will prove a tough test as they sit 12 places above in 5th spot.
The last clash between the two sides back in August ended 1-1 after Andy Halls’ wonderful goal earned a point on the road.
Alty however have improved their form since then and before their Boxing Day defeat at Stockport they had not lost a league game since 29th September at Kidderminster.
The Lions meanwhile have been inconsistent with just one league win since 13th October.
Russ O’Neill was not a happy man shortly after the final whistle on Wednesday saying The Lions started the game “like a bag of rubbish” after Oli Johnson tucked away three minutes in.
“I am absolutely devastated, from 1-11 we got out done by a team on the front foot, they were the better team and deserved the win. I think we would be clutching at straws by dressing it up, kidding myself and everybody else saying we could have got something from the game, we got beat from the first minute to the last.”
Russ went on to talk about the season so far and the inconsistent showing in the Vanarama National League North “It pains me to say it, physically they have done us, they wanted it more than us. We have had our run in the FA Cup and put our stamp on that but have never got going in the league, we said let’s go and do that. They proved why they are top and we are not, end of.”
Looking ahead to the visit of Altrincham he said “We need to make sure we don’t get beat up on Saturday.”
“Saturday is our next game, we cannot have a repeat of this. We have got to take it on the chin, we can talk and talk and talk saying what we want but we have got to go and make it happen.”
Following the final whistle the Supporters’ Club’s Christmas Cash Draw will be taking place with food available and the winners drawn out.
Tickets are still available to purchase from their desk in the Clubhouse for just £1 each.
