Guiseley AFC Community Foundation’s first newsletter of 2022 is now available to read.
Happy New Year
Guiseley Community Foundation hopes that our supporters, staff and those whom we work with have had a good Christmas. We wish them all a Happy New Year – a year hopefully better than the year that has just passed!
Healthy Holidays Success
During the first week of the Christmas holidays, we ran a Healthy Holidays camp, with an average of 30 children attending each day.
The children enjoyed a number of activities, ranging from festive arts and crafts to football and dodgeball. However, the most popular activities included petting small animals, making edible gifts, watching birds of prey and having a Christmas party. This holiday, we provided hot food for the children who attended, including pizza, as well as fish and chips.
We would like to thank Morrisons, Fare Share and Murgatroyds for providing the food, and we’d also like to thank the Rotary Club for preparing some of this food.
At the end of the week, we were able to send each child home with a Christmas present, as a result of our Christmas toy appeal. Each child was also sent home with an activity pack alongside their presents.
Christmas Football Camps
Our Christmas holiday football camps also proved to be very successful. Over 20 children attended each day, including regular attendees, as well as children who had not been before.
One of the most popular activities was the afternoon tournament. The children also enjoyed a shooting game called Lightning.
Ben and Connor would like to say a huge ‘Well Done’ to everyone who attended, and they hope to see you again during February half term.
Yeadon Westfield Clothes Sales
Community Coach Marcus is beginning to work alongside Yeadon Westfield Junior School’s Eco group this year. One of the first things the group is trying to organise is a clothes sale, to help reduce waste caused by school uniform.
Any item of uniform that is no longer being used can be donated, which will be sold for a small fee, to help generate funds for the Eco group to complete more work. Children can take any donations to their teachers, or donations can be taken to reception.
New Equipment
Thanks to funding received before Christmas, the Foundation has been able to purchase lots of new sports equipment, including dodgeballs and an archery set.
