Liam Dickinson’s penalty eight minutes from time settled a tense derby against FC Halifax Town as the Lions claimed a 2-1 victory on Tuesday.
The hosts started cautiously, with former Town midfielder Will Hatfield shooting just over early on before the home side once conceded an early goal as CJ Hamilton ran past two defenders before lashing the ball high into the net past Steven Drench after just eight minutes.
Hamilton continued to cause jitters in the home defence with his direct running and close control and it took the Lions twenty minutes to get into the game.
Just before Hatfield levelled, Tom Craddock made good progress down the left to set up the midfielder whose shot was just the wrong side of the post.
However, when the home side were awarded a throw in on the right Hatfield played a quick one-two on the edge of the area and then shot beyond Matt Glennon into the corner for the equaliser on 27 minutes.
Wayne Brooksby replaced Zac Thompson on the resumption and Guiseley went close early on when Jake Lawlor fired just over the angle from Ryan Toulson’s cross.
Adam Boyes replaced Craddock shortly after and the industrious Hatfield had a shot on target blocked by Jordan Burrow with Glennon floundering.
But the hosts’ persistence paid off as Lawlor beat his man cutting in from the right only to be scythed down by Matty Brown.
Dickinson stepped up and dispatched a perfect penalty into the corner beyond Glennon’s reach to put the Lions in front with eight minutes remaining.
And although Halifax tried hard to get back into the game it proved beyond them as the Lions registered their third win of the campaign.
The victory also  extended their unbeaten run to four games and saw them leapfrog Macclesfield Town to sixteenth in the table before the long trip to Dover Athletic on Saturday.
