The proceeds of a six-a-side football competition to be staged at his favourite club Guiseley AFC on Sunday will help Ilkley Property Director Andy Sharpe towards his fundraising target of £25,000 for CLIC Sargent, the leading children’s cancer charity.
Andy, 29, started fundraising for CLIC Sargent in 2012 and hopes that Sunday’s event -organised jointly by Guiseley AFC and Aireborough Lions Club with Lions charities sharing the proceeds – will help him past the £22,000 mark.
So far Andy has raised approximately £21,800 towards his target by competing in a number of marathons including London three times and the Edinburgh, Welsh (in support of MIND), Dublin and Belfast Marathons once each to complete his England, Republic of Ireland, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales collection.
He and his team gained a Guinness Book of Records entry for the fastest five person costume in the 2017 London Marathon.
He has also competed in the Leeds Half-Marathon in 2016 inside an inflatable Mr Blobby costume and again in 2017 without costume.
Andy’s fundraising has also seen him complete a sky dive dressed as a Dalmatian dog, take the Ilkley to the Peak District Virtual Spin Bike Challenge and complete the 5K Great North Swim.
This amazing fundraiser has also organised an event in Ilkley Riverside Gardens, held a charity race night and auction, held carnival stalls, various themed charity nights and fancy dress bucket collections.
Andy plans to complete further fundraising events in 2017 including an Olympic Distance London Triathlon on July 23rd; The Great North Run in fancy dress on September 10th and the Yorkshire Marathon on October 8th.
Andy said:”I hope that people enjoy the football tournament at Guiseley on Sunday whilst helping to push the total past the £22,000 mark. The football starts at 10am and runs through the afternoon. There will be refreshments on sale so come and make a day of it.
