Cantrill Can’t Wait For Season To Start As He Signs A New Contract

We are delighted to announce that George Cantrill has signed a new contract with the club.

The versatile Cantrill will enter a third full season after initially joining on loan from Sheffield United writes Rachel O’Connor.

The former young Blade, 21, impressed in his loan period in 2018-19 and when he was released by Sheffield United in the summer of 2019, despite interest from other Football League clubs, he decided to join The Lions.

The Sheffield-based player, who is training to be a Quantity Surveyor, made a positive impact in his first full season with The Lions figuring in midfield as well as at full-back and has developed into a great asset for the club able to play a number of roles.

George has been a consistent performer in any role he was been asked to play over the 62 games he has so far played for the club, with the past two seasons ended early by the Covid 19 outbreak.

The player, who is prepared to play anywhere but favours a central midfield role, is looking forward to the new season saying: “I am really happy to sign a new contract with Guiseley and I can’t wait for a new season to start. It has been a real shame the way the last two seasons have ended early as I feel we could have made real progress as a team.

“We have a great mix of young players and experienced players now and in Hamza Bencherif we have a great on-field leader. Since I moved into the back four he has really helped me. We appear to be building up a similar squad to last season so I think we can push on and aim for promotion. I believe we are capable of that. We have some really great young players who have come through from the Academy, a number having had trials with Football League clubs recently, and I really think we can push on.”

George added: “Although I still have ambitions to get back into the Football League I am happy at Guiseley, I really like it at this club and look forward to our fans being able to see games once again. My ambitions at the moment are with Guiseley, I want us to go back up to the National League and I think getting there would help everyone to progress. The standard there is high and there are lots of really good players in that league.”
