Callum Chippendale Signs For The Lions

We are delighted to announced the signing of Callum Chippendale from Matlock Town.

Attacking midfielder Callum Chippendale has joined Guiseley AFC from Matlock Town, writes Rachel O’Connor.

Callum comes to Guiseley as part of a deal that sees John Johnston leaving us to join Matlock for an undisclosed fee plus Callum. Johnston made 27 competitive starts for the Lions scoring one goal at home to Avro in the Emirates FA Cup and departs with our best wishes for the future.

As Callum settles into the Guiseley squad the 26 year-old, from the Keighley area, is looking forward to among other things the reduced travelling time to home games and training.

For Chippendale the move from Matlock came out of the blue on Friday. He explained: “I was in the squad at Matlock and although I had missed a few games with an injury I was back in the starting Xl after being a sub in the game at Guiseley in September.

He added: “Despite having a new manager I had played in the last few games and was not expecting a move. I am buzzing to make the move to Guiseley though as being a fairly local lad I have always been aware of Guiseley AFC and respected them as a top club.”

After attending Holy Family School at Keighley the former youth player at Bradford City gained his first professional contract at Barnsley FC, where he played in the Under-23s.

On leaving The Tykes Chippendale joined Bradford (Park Avenue), leaving them in 2016 for Boston United.

He gained further experience at Gainsborough Trinity, Glossop North End, Shaw Lane and Buxton prior to joining Matlock Town in the summer of 2019. At the age of 22 he captained Buxton to the play-offs.

The goalscoring midfielder said: “I have twice been in the play-offs but although it is an achievement within itself it is not quite getting over the line and I hope to go one better with Guiseley.

“I am hoping for the play-offs at the very least with Guiseley, a club that was a good National League North side and they need to be back there. I will be doing all I can to make that a reality. I want to help the team achieve things this season.”

There were some familiar faces ready to welcome Chippendale to the Guiseley squad as he has previously played with Luke Dean and Spencer Harris.

Chippendale works for the family firm in Bradford which is involved in making wool machine washable.

Of his work Chippendale said: “I enjoy working for the family firm as it gives me a bit of flexibility, especially where mid-week away games are concerned.”

He comes from a footballing family with his older brother Aidan now playing for Thackley, a club their father played for, having joined them from Bury.

Aidan started his career with Bradford City’s youth team and made his professional debut for Huddersfield Town.

In his spare time Callum enjoys playing golf and is a member at West Bradford Golf Club.

Callum is ineligible for tonight’s West Riding County Cup tie against Horbury Town due to competition rules but can play in Saturday’s trip to Belper Town.

Callum’s home, away and training kits are all available to sponsor.
